Joyce Yvonne Kane, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 27, 2025, at the age of 86. A longtime resident of Sandy, Utah. Joyce lived a life full of love, laughter, quiet strength, and an unforgettable independent stubborn spirit.
Born on September 17, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Margaret and Lawrence Zipfel. Joyce grew up alongside her older brother, Kenneth. She attended an all-girls Catholic school before her family relocated to Redding, California. It was there that her path eventually led her to Charles O. Kane, the love of her life. Together, they built a life raising four boys: Bill, Chuck Jr., Bob, and Jon, first in California, moved to Nebraska, and eventually settling in Sandy, Utah.
Joyce’s heart was biggest when it came to her family. She cared for her six grandchildren and was best known for her backyard tea parties, her garden walks along the railroad ties, and the countless camping trips taken to the KOA. She never passed up a good deal or anything that was just “too cute,” often sharing trinkets, treats, and smiles with neighbor kids, friends at the veterinarian office, and her great-grandchildren.
Her pride and joy was her cabin in Island Park, Idaho. A place where she felt most alive. She spent months each year cutting down trees, working the land, and soaking in the beauty of the place she loved most. Even as her body slowed, her heart longed to be there in her stubborn, strong, and determined way to do things her way.
In her final year, Joyce found new joy at Copper Creek Senior Living Center. She made friends, left candy at their doors, and fully embraced the little luxuries, from her regular perm to manicures and pedicures.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Lawrence; her brother, Kenneth; her husband, Charles O. Kane; sons, Bill and Chuck Jr.; great-grandson, Cameron; nephew, Larry; and her many beloved pets.
She is survived by her sons, Bob (Janice) and Jon (Misty); daughter-in-law Rosie; niece, Kathy; grandchildren Sandra, Steven, Aubrey (Joe), Bobby (Shelby), Amber (Zach), Jacquelyn (Cam); and ten great-grandchildren who carry forward her love, stories, and spirit.
Joyce’s gentle presence, generous heart, and fierce independence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the joy of knowing her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Copper Creek Care Team and Ovation Hospice for the compassionate care, dignity, and support they provided during Joyce’s final days. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten.
At Joyce’s request the family will have a private service.
