Karl Gene Thorpe

"Our Country"

On Monday, August 23, 2021, Karl Gene Thorpe, loving husband, brother, and father, passed away at the age of 72.

Karl was born August 4, 1949, in Gunnison, Utah to Charles and NaDene (DeMill) Thorpe. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. On July 22, 1987, he married his dearly loved wife Jan Webb.  Karl raised three daughters, Brandi, Tori, and Kami.

As a father, Karl proved to be the kindest and most loving father there could be. Over countless camping, fishing, and hunting trips, he more than earned the love and admiration of his daughters.

As a soldier, Karl served bravely in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. As part of the 11th Armed Cavalry "Blackhorse" Regiment, he served alongside dear friends and was presented a Purple Heart for his service, as well as an Army Commendation Medal with "V" Device for acts of heroism involving conflict with an armed enemy.

Karl will forever be remembered as one of the bravest and toughest men who all the while carried the most loving and kind of hearts. He loved his family more than anything, whether that meant making his parents proud, helping his family by any means, loving his beloved wife, or raising his children and grandchildren to appreciate all that life and family has to offer. Karl was an incredibly capable man and did the Thorpe name proud as a great hunter and expert shot, his rugged hands could build anything, and he happily used his cooking skills to feed family and friends. Karl's most cherished memories is hunting with his father, brothers, and son-in-law Jason, a tradition he has passed down to his children and grandchildren and will be used to remember him forever.

In his passing, Karl will be reuniting with his father, Charles T. Thorpe, his mother, NaDene (DeMill) Thorpe, beloved granddaughter Eleigh LeCates, sons-in-law Zack Thornton and Dennis Dust, and good old Brown.

Karl will be remembered in life by: his loving wife, Jan Thorpe; his brothers, Kirk Thorpe and Kris Thorpe; his sisters, Kay Williams, Kathy Slagowski, and Keryl Squires; his three girls "Karl's Angels," Brandi LeCates (Jason), Tori Bloomquist (Shaun), Kami Thorpe, and daughters Jeanie Johnson (Steve), Anette Dust, and Cyndee Devore (Mike); his dearly loved grandchildren Eli, Ethen, Jack, Hailey, Caitlin, Mckenna, Gavin, Kyler, Avery, Karli Gene, Walker, Cali, Zack, Carissa, Wes, Cate, Andrew, August, Michael, Matt, Amber; and, the ever so beloved Brown Dog.

A private family service will be held at Camp Williams in honor of Karl's military service, followed by a traditional Thorpe gathering and dove hunt at the family farm.
