Kathleen (Kathy) Vawdrey Taylor, 81, of Sandy, Utah, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Monday, May 18, 2026. She was a fun-loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and she will be greatly missed by many.
Kathy was born February 8, 1945 in Murray, Utah, to Curtis and Lydia Lovell Vawdrey. She was raised in Draper, Utah, and attended Jordan High School. On October 29, 1962, Kathy married Kenneth Taylor in Murray, Utah.
Kathy worked for many years managing the snack bar at the Sandy Reams where her beloved sister, Ramona Hunter also worked. They could often be located in the store just by listening for their laughter and were known for their hilarious Halloween costumes. Kathy’s love of the outdoors made her a natural for her job at Sportsman’s Warehouse where she worked in the Camping Department. During her years at Sportman’s, Kathy formed many friendships with her coworkers and her family enjoyed the best in camping equipment from her generous gift giving. At least until the weight from all the Dutch ovens impacted their gas milage and she had to curb her generosity.
Weekends spent camping at the family property in Gilbert Meadows were Kathy’s favorite past time. She never missed a chance to set out food for the chipmunks, squirrels and birds in camp. She spent hours walking through the woods with her Shelties, Oscar, Oakley, and Lottie. She loved all the dogs she shared her life with, but in her later years her favorites were her sister’s dog Max, who she lovingly repaired stuffed toys for and her Corgi, Gus, who she shared every meal with. Some of her other hobbies included cross stitch and sewing, leaving behind some beautiful pieces for her family to treasure. Kathy also enjoyed collecting old records and salt and pepper shakers.
The family would like to express our appreciation to all those involved in her care, especially her sister and niece, Ramona and Tami. Kathy lived with Ramona for many years where she got the very best of care. Both Ramona and Tami were an enormous help even when Kathy lived with her daughter.
Survivors: daughter, LeeAnn Grover (Paul). Preceded in death by son, Myron Taylor and husband, Kenneth Taylor.
