LaRue Roberts

LaRue Roberts

Our beautiful mother, LaRue Roberts, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and loyal four-legged companion, Zoe. She will be greatly missed.

LaRue was born in Mountain Home, Utah, on November 5, 1934, to Edwin Rowley and June Stevens Rowley. Her childhood was a good mix of adventure and hard work. She graduated from Altamont High School, where she was crowned the High School Sweetheart and gathered many lifelong friends along the way. On December 11, 1952, she married Donald Langton in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they had five children: Terry, Tracy, Cindy, Sandra, and David. LaRue and Don later divorced but remained friends.

She worked at Christensen Diamond and later in accounting at various businesses. She was an avid bowler and golfer. On July 14, 1984, she married the love of her life, David C. Roberts. Together, they began their life of travel and fun family gatherings. Dave was her Pooh Bear, and she was his Rue—what a team! Sadly, he passed on January 29, 2011.

Our mom loved being creative. She was a skilled seamstress who could sew beautiful wedding dresses and clothes for her children, husband, and herself. She loved drawing, painting, coloring, making jewelry, afghans, quilts, and knitting or crocheting baby blankets, hats, and scarves. She was passionate about reading books, buying knick-knacks and jewelry, and shopping for the latest fashion styles. She savored learning and adapted well to the ever-changing technology of computers and smartphones. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LaRue enjoyed genealogy and became a volunteer at the FamilySearch Library to learn more about her family history and help others learn about theirs. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

The family wishes to thank all the many wonderful neighbors and ward members who helped care for our mother and surrounded her with love, laughter, delicious meals, visits, yard work, and countless other acts of service. They are greatly appreciated. Special thanks to Tim Russell, whose constant care and counsel for our mom were such selfless gifts. To MaryJean Workman and Julie Willden for taking Zoe on her daily walks. After Mom passed, Julie offered to take Zoe in and care for her; the family is so grateful for that. Please know how much she loved you all.

LaRue is survived by her children, Tracy (Stan) Finn, Cindy (John) Ostlund, Sandra (Kerry) Ashby and David. She is also survived by her remaining sister Vickie (Jack) Cowan, 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, plus twin boys due any day and 1 great-great-grandchild due this fall. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dave, her daughter, Terry (Craig) Stevens, her granddaughter, Danyel Adams, her parents Edwin and June Rowley, and her siblings Fred (Patricia) Rowley, Leslie (Carol) Rowley, and Julia (Brian) Yates.

Services will be held on Friday, May 9th, at 11 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend the viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Crescent Park Ward chapel, 11350 S 1300 E, Sandy, Utah. The funeral will be held afterwards, and interment will follow at the Stevens Family Cemetery in Oakley, Utah. In lieu of flowers, take a friend to lunch or help someone in need.
