Laurence Earl “Larry” Nielsen

Laurence Earl “Larry” Nielsen passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer and dementia, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Larry was born on December 19, 1940, in Nephi, Utah, to Earl Eugene and Margaret Elizabeth “Bessie” Nielsen. He was full of energy, loved animals, and enjoyed a little mischief as a boy.

On December 19, 1958, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Rae Winter. Together they shared 67 years of marriage and raised three children: Scot (Annette) Nielsen, Brett (Kelli) Nielsen, and Tena (Sam) Duncan. They taught their family the value of integrity, hard work, and making time to enjoy life together.

Larry worked on the railroad for more than 40 years, where he was known as a skilled welder and problem solver. He loved building and creating, and if he didn’t have the tool or part he needed for a project, he simply made it himself. There was little he couldn’t fix or build. He loved hunting, spending time in the mountains, gardening, watching western movies, driving Ford trucks, and sharing good food with family and friends. He and Bonnie built a cabin above Mount Pleasant that will be a gathering place for generations.

In his later years, Bonnie lovingly cared for Larry as dementia gradually took his memories. Her faithful devotion was a remarkable expression of love and commitment.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Bessie Nielsen; his sisters, Sharlene Allred, Bonita Corry, and Margaret Olsen; Father-In-law Ray Edward Winter, Mother-In-law Mary Jane Winter and his brother-in-law, Bruce Winter.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie; his children, Scot (Annette), Brett (Kelli), and Tena (Sam); 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way.

Larry will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, love of the outdoors, and deep devotion to his family. The example he set through a life of hard work, loyalty, and love will continue to bless those who knew him.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 11 AM at the Anderson Funeral Home with a visitation 10:00 to 10:45. Interment will be at the Levan Cemetery with a luncheon following at the Levan City Park.
