LaVon Peck Kirton, our beautiful mother, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024, surrounded by her children. LaVon was born on November 23, 1932, to George Russell and Betsy Lovenia Zundel Peck. She married Richard Walter Kirton Sr. on December 22, 1954, in the Logan Temple.
LaVon loved everyone and was so loved in return. She had a playful personality, was quick to smile, and lived life happily serving others. She loved to dance, entertain, and show off her skill at juggling eggs (much to dad’s dismay). Her favorite times were Sunday nights with popcorn and a house full of family and friends. She kept her family very close, planning frequent parties and making holiday traditions that will last for generations. She was famous for her homemade candy and loved to share her pecan rolls, chocolates, and pecan brittle with neighbors and friends at Christmas time.
LaVon cherished her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had great faith and shared her beliefs and testimony often. She and her husband served in the Jordan River and Draper Temples for more than 25 years.
She is survived by her eight children, Becky Cranney, Carrie (Rod) Backus, Richard (Polly) Kirton, Alan (Jana) Kirton, Vicki (Verl) Chidester, Tom (Traci) Kirton, Lonie Carr, and Kevin (Kammi) Kirton; sister Nancy Chadwick; sisters-in-laws, Beverly Peck, Audrey Nelson, and Peggy Evans; 30 grandchildren; and 57 great-grandchildren. LaVon was preceded in death by her husband; parents; granddaughter Kristen Ann Kirton; and 10 brothers and sisters.
The funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8th at the Draper 5th Ward, 1617 E 12700 S., Draper. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7th at the Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 S. 700 E., Draper, as well as one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road, Sandy.
