Layne Philip Sackett

Layne Philip Sackett, 44, passed away unexpectedly on 27 August 2025 in Midvale, UT. He was born in Bellflower, California on 14 August 1981 to Mark and Barbara Sackett. As a newborn Layne was diagnosed with a heart defect that was stabilized enough after a minor procedure for him to leave the hospital. He had open-heart surgery at 15 months and never slowed down again.

When he was 9, Layne's family moved from their home in Norwalk, California to Sandy, Utah where he made lifelong friends. Layne was always fun and full of energy and enjoyed sports both on and off the field. As a 13-year-old, he earned a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and competed in the 1994 Junior Olympics where he placed 3rd. Always at the forefront of whatever he did, he was a talented, multifaceted musician who enjoyed (and was especially brilliant at) singing though he also enjoyed playing the drums. As an avid sportsman, Layne spent as much time as he could in the great outdoors fishing and camping. He found satisfaction in doing woodworking, remodeling homes and watching sports with his dad, cooking and watching cooking shows with his mom and making music videos with his brother Byran and sister-in-law Lauren. Layne loved animals - especially his Papillion puppy, Oreo. He also enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephew who loved him very much.

Layne is survived by his father and mother, daughter Janelle (Sebastian), sister Crystal and brothers Byran (Lauren) and Shane.

Graveside services will be held in the Grantsville Cemetery, 820 W 300 S at 1:00 PM on 24 September 2025.

Layne, we love and miss you but we know that one day we will be reunited. Until then, we have family albums full of photo bombed pictures to remember you by.
