Lillie Sylvia Spencer Kunz was born August 20, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Isaac Carling Spencer and Sylvia Allred Spencer. She was the seventh of fifteen children. She lived in Short Creek, Arizona, then moved with her family to “Old Mexico.”
As a young lady, she injured her back in an accident when thrown from a truck. She came up to the United States for medical treatment. She attended the Salt Lake Area Vocational School and became an L.P.N. (Licensed Practical Nurse). Lillie loved nursing and had a kind, compassionate, and caring nature. Her love and dedication have impacted countless lives. She was loved by many people.
She trained and worked at the Salt Lake County Hospital, and worked for thirty years at Cottonwood Hospital until her retirement. She continued working part time in home health care. For the past several years she volunteered cheerfully at the Aplos House in Eagle Mountain, where she recently became a resident and passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.
She had four children: LaMar (Kitty) Spencer, Gladys (Hyrum) Thompson, Roger, and Alyson (Mark) Mackert. Her sister wife had eleven children whom she also loved and claimed as her own.
She had a firm testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and was an example of service to her fellowmen. She looked forward to going home to be with her loved ones, as she is preceded in death by many, and also survived by many.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in Rocky Ridge (157 North Rockwell Drive, Rocky Ridge) at 11:30 a.m. with a viewing prior to the service from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Rocky Ridge Cemetery.
