"Nana"
Our dear sweet mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 3, 2026 at the age of 100. Marie was born on April 13, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Viola Hansen Allen and Harold Edson Allen. She was deeply loved and will be forever missed. She was compassionate, generous, fun-loving and had a love for people.
Marie met the love of her life at a Valentine's party she held at her parent's home. It was love at first sight. She and Bud were inseparable from that point until he enlisted in the Navy. They were engaged before his departure, and got married when he returned home on leave. They were later married in the Salt Lake Temple.
Marie understood the importance of working; and held jobs at Grants Department Store, Auerbach and Z.C.M.I. after graduation from high school. When Bud went abroad with the Navy, she returned back to Salt Lake from Bremerton, Washington where he had been stationed, and went to work for Western Union.
Marie had a true love for children. Along with having three of her own; she served as a Foster Mother to 95 newly born babies, which she cared for until they were officially adopted. She also volunteered at the L.D.S. Hospital and worked in the Pink Shop.
Marie and Bud enjoyed traveling and were blessed with the ability to travel the world. They traveled with family and friends; and treated each of their grandchildren to a trip to Hawaii when they reached the age of fourteen.
Marie was very accomplished with her hands. She crocheted afghans for family, Primary Children's Hospital and a small group of nursing homes. She embroidered dish towels and gave them as shower and wedding gifts. She also spent endless hours assembling scrapbooks and picture albums for friends and family.
Marie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in a variety of teaching callings as Den Mother, Cub Scout Leader, Visiting Teacher, Primary Teacher and Nursery Leader; but had a special place in her heart for her Varied Interest Group calling where she gathered widowed women together for an afternoon or evening of fun.
She is survived by her son, Stephen (Debra), daughter-in-law, Laura, eight grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Bud, her son, Mark Ulrich, her daughter, Robyn Lever, brother, Glen Allen, sister, Jewel Wenerstrom, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 12 noon at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East in Draper, with a viewing from 10:30 to 11:45 am.
