Marilyn Rueckert born May 8th, 1938 in Salt Lake City to Leonard Christopher and Lela Barlow Rueckert passed away on May 17th, 2024 in Sandy, Utah at the age of eighty-six.
Marilyn married Charles Donald Petersen on June 22nd, 1956, and later divorced in 1974. She then married John F. Nye on August 21st, 1976 and the two were sealed in the Jordan River Temple on May 17th, 1994. Marilyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many positions such as Young Woman’s President, Ward Organist, Primary Pianist, Primary Teacher, Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society President, Ward Choir Pianist, and Ministering Teacher.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother of 13 grandchildren, great grandmother of 7 great grandchildren, and great great grandmother of 1 great great grandchild. Marilyn was a talented Organist and Pianist. She loved to read, was passionate about politics and loved spending time with family and friends.
Marilyn’s first job was with Cummins Intermountain Diesel as an executive secretary to their Executive Chairman and Legislator of Utah, Warren Pugh. Later she went to Fuel Injection as an Office Manager and Rust Automation, where she retired in 1999.
She is survived by one son Bryan Mark Petersen (Debbie); one daughter Lori Kay Scow (Eddie); four step-sons Mitch, Greg, Mark, and Ira Nye; one sister Carol Haslam (Bill). Preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, one granddaughter and one grandson.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, May 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29th at 11:00 AM at the Mount Jordan 3rd Ward, 8950 South 400 East, Sandy, with a viewing one hour prior to services. Interment to follow services at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd., Sandy.
