Marilyn Cole Stokes

Marilyn Cole Stokes, born May 11, 1945, passed away peacefully at her home on January 15, 2026 after a brief battle with acute AML leukemia.

Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Midvale and a proud member of the first graduating class of Hillcrest High School. She was well known by her neighbors and city officials alike as the “mayor” and neighborhood watch of Fern Drive.

Marilyn had a beautiful passion for floral design and worked in the industry for 35 years. This same passion and pride extended to her yard and garden, where she spent countless hours tending and caring for her flowers.

She loved animals, especially dogs. Marilyn shared custody of her two granddogs, Tiggs and Ellie, enjoying weekly sleepovers with them. She also cared deeply about homeless pets and donated monthly to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and the Utah Humane Society.

You could always find Marilyn cheering loudly at her children’s softball and hockey games, as well as supporting them from the stands during marching band and drumline performances.

Marilyn is survived by her son, Daniel (Cassidy), and her brother, John (Cara) Cole. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Floris Cole, and her husband, James Daniel Stokes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marilyn’s name to either Best Friends Animal Sanctuary or the Utah Humane Society.
