Marjorie Crowther Smith, 85, passed away and was reunited with her Father in Heaven on April 9, 2024.
Marjorie was born June 6, 1938 in Ogden, Utah, to George Clifton and Norma Hussey Crowther. She was the last of three children born into the loving family. She grew up in Salt Lake City, graduating from East High School in 1956. Marjorie attended and graduated from the University of Utah, majoring in education. She began her teaching career in the Salt Lake City School District.
She married the love of her life, Randall F Smith, on August 18, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent close to 50 years happily together until his passing in 2020. They settled in Draper, Utah, and raised 3 children and lived semi-rural life with a small farm. Marjorie took a leave of absence from teaching while raising her three children. She then returned to teaching in the Jordan School District, most notably at Willow Canyon Elementary in Sandy, Utah. She was an amazing teacher to many children and made lifelong friends with other teachers. Marjorie retired in 2006 and was able to help her daughter begin her career as a teacher. Marjorie was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a mainstay of the Draper 2nd/6th LDS wards and was faithful in her callings. She was beloved by those in the ward and those she served with.
Marjorie was an avid reader and devoured countless books in her free time. She also enjoyed gardening and had a vibrant and colorful yard, to match the disorderliness of the farm beyond the house, much to her chagrin. Marjorie suffered a stroke in 2016 and later in 2021, a spinal cord injury. This limited her ability to function and enjoy the hobbies she had before. Throughout it all, she never allowed her hardships to make her an unpleasant person and took the challenges in stride. She touched those who cared for her as much as they impacted her.
Above all, Marjorie loved her family more than anything. She sacrificed much of herself and her time to raise her children and counsel them as adults. She was always willing to lend an ear and provide support during times of sorrow. She loved and adored her grandchildren and was an amazing grandmother.
She is survived by her children Jared (Katie) Smith, Jacob (Elizabeth) Smith, and Megan Harris, and her cherished four grandchildren. Marjorie is now reunited with her eternal partner, Randall, her beloved parents, her sister Jeri Lou Crowther Hansen and brother Bruce Clifton Crowther.
We love you. You will be missed, but your generosity and love will remain with everyone who loved you.
