Martha Irene (Berg) Somers Smith

Martha Smith passed on to the next life on February 22, 2022, at home with her family close by. Martha lived a full and adventurous life that lasted more than a century.

Martha was born to William A Berg and Flossie Bell Feare on May 8th, 1920, in Valparaiso, Indiana. Martha married Peter Somers Jr on Sept. 11, 1940. They had 3 children Gerry, John, and Chris. They lived throughout the US and world including a military assignment helping to rebuild Hiroshima Japan following the end of WWII.

In 1990 at 70 years young, Martha married Lamont Smith. They greatly enjoyed their friends at the Heritage SR Center in Murray and spent their golden years traveling the world together.

Martha had 3 children, 7 grandsons, 11 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family, especially her great grandkids.

Martha was preceded in death by both husbands Peter and Lamont, siblings Marie, Ester, Lucille, Rita, Dorthy June, Bernise, Carl and Donald, son John Somers and great grandson Bretton Somers.

She is survived by daughter Gerry Ryan and son Chris Somers.

Martha spent her final years with her grandkids Tony and April Somers. We appreciate so much the loving care Martha found with their family.

Graveside service will be conducted at high noon on Saturday, February 26th at the West Jordan Cemetery, 7800 South 1300 West.
