Michael King

Michael Richard King, 85, passed away on April 17, 2023, in Spanish Fork, Utah. Mike was born on August 26, 1937, in Clovis, New Mexico. His parents were divorced when he was a baby. His mother, Marcia Potter, later married Richard Clinton King, and he subsequently adopted Mike. Mike joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1955 when he was a senior in high school. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1962. He married Dianne Bates on June 26, 1960 in San Bernardino, California. They were endowed in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on January 25, 1964. Together, they have six children: Stacy, Jared, Brennin, Matthew, Caleb, and Megan. They were married nearly 63 years. Mike and Dianne spent the early years of their marriage in California, moving to Provo, Utah, in 1968 when Mike accepted a job at BYU and continued his education. He earned a Bachelor's degree and most of a Master’s degree, until his work load became too heavy to continue his schooling. 

Mike’s interests included his family first, then church service, motorcycle riding, scouting, and camping. He spent 14 years helping Nephi 1st-graders with their reading, which he loved. 

Mike is survived by his wife, Dianne and by his children, Stacy (Wade) Johnson, Jared (Jamie) King, Brennin (Jeri) King, Matthew (Mary) King, Caleb (Johanna) King, and Megan (Paul) Smith; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Clinton King and Marcia Potter King. 

The service for Michael King will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, in the Nephi 1st Ward, 222 S. 100 E., Nephi, UT 84648. The viewing will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m., and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
