For all those I leave behind, remember me through all I loved. My wife Linda was my life, my breath, my soul. She took care of me so tenderly and she was an amazing mother to my daughters. My daughters, Marie Elena, Anita, Bernadette, Sophia and Guadalupe, flesh of my flesh and bone of my bone. They were my pride and joy. They were with me until the end, and I will love them always. I gave you life, so know that I will always be with you and a part of you even now. To my sons, Eric, Gary, and Kevin. Please continue to love, respect, and care for my daughters as I have through my life. My grandchildren, through your mothers you carry my legacy into the future, so honor me by loving yourselves as I have loved you. Remember your God and give help where you can to those who are less fortunate. Remember to remain humble and kind. And never forget to “take care of your mama’s.” My great grandchildren, every day is a gift. Always greet people with a smile. And remember when times are tough, God will always provide. Smile when you think of me for, I will be looking down on you caring for and loving you.
On October 25th, 2026, Mike Fidel Gonzales of Midvale, Utah passed away surrounded by his daughters. He was born to Guadalupe and Tomas Gonzales in Bingham Canyon on January 16th, 1938. He married Linda Lydia Perez November 13th, 1965. They were together for 53 years.
Our dad was one of 14 brothers and sisters. This was something that gave him great pride. The way they stuck together and were always there for one another. He would say that if one had a problem, they all did. He carried the grief of losing his parents for his lifetime. And he missed each of his siblings once they were gone. He never stopped thinking, missing or praying for them in his lifetime. He was also blessed to have 52 nieces and nephews. He knew, loved, and had a relationship with each one of them. Some say they are blessed to have him as a Godfather.
Mike grew up in Bingham Canyon. These memories were his fondest. He learned to help provide for his family at the age of 10 when he and his brothers would sell ore samples to the tourists. These were hard times, but they made the most of everything. The family then moved to Midvale where he remained. He graduated from Bingham High School. Then joined the Air Force in 1964. When he returned, he met the love of his life, Linda Lydia, and married her on November 13th, 1965. By 1970 he was the proud father of five daughters.
Our father was always an example of kindness and compassion. He never met a person he wasn’t willing to help. We never prayed over a meal without praying for those who may be less fortunate than us. He was a good neighbor and devout parishioner of St. Therese’s Catholic Church. He was a servant to his community and provided help to those in need. Most people remember the donut man in the green truck with a beep beep as he drove by. The service he provided earned him many forms of recognition in the community. As he was humble and kind, he was always shy and embarrassed at the recognition. He was inducted into the Midvale Hall of Honors for his endless service to the community in 1997.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife Linda Lydia and daughter Marie Elena. As well as his parents and 10 of his siblings. He is survived by his daughters Bernadette and Eric Duran, Sophia and Gary Romero, Guadalupe and Kevin Taylor, and Anita Coverdale; 18 Grandchildren; and 14 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Rosalio Gonzales, Louis and Shirley Gonzales, and Gene and Judy Gonzales. Along with more nieces and nephews than we can count, generations.
During the last years of our daddy’s life, we were blessed with many compassionate and loving caregivers to assist us. Our sincerest thanks go out to Nico Bravo, our dad’s gentle giant. Thank you for helping him be “everywhere man” in your tiny little car. To Cecelia, you have been not only a caregiver, but a spiritual partner, we thank you. You will forever be a sister to us now. You and your mama are stuck with us. To Marina, for the shenanigans you shared with your Papa. Your singing and home cooked meals kept him entertained and nourished. You kept his silliness alive. And to Kevin Taylor, you gave our daddy purpose when he needed it most. And you gained a father while missing your own. Your companionship and undeniable friendship developed through the years as he dubbed you “Caveman”. To our sister Marie Elena. She lived with our daddy and cared for him as our mom did for the final years, he was on Pine Street. She loved daddy and she spoiled him, making sure he had cookies and milk and was tucked in tight at night with a soft kiss to his forehead. Thank you, sister. To Francesca, you were our dad’s mija from day one. Talking to him in Spanish was such a treat for him. And your love of music and dancing were all the medicine he ever needed. Trish, your attentive gentleness to our Papa and yours was unconditional. To Mama Pele and her caring family, you have been with him since the start at Crescent Senior Living: Namaste. Your endless care and love for our daddy will never be forgotten. We are thankful to Crescent Senior Living, who became our father’s home for the last three years. And thank you to all the staff that loved and cared for our daddy. And thank you to Canyons Hospice. Dani, Brittany, and Carolee you provided great care to our daddy. Thank you.
