Nedra Simmons Bowles

Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Nedra Simmons Bowles, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024 in Mesa Arizona at age 94. She was born on January 27, 1930 in Logan, Utah to her parents Wallace Berry Simmons and Gertrude Muriel Bigler. Nedra was raised with her two brothers in the small rural community of Beaver Dam, Utah. She graduated from Bear River High School and then attended Utah State University. She spent the summer after her freshman year working at Yellowstone National Park before returning to school at LDS Business College.

Nedra met Harold Dean Bowles in 1952 while he was stationed at Fort Ord Army post in California. They later married in the Logan, Utah Temple on April 30, 1954. Nedra and Dean moved to Orange, California where they raised their family just 10 minutes from Disneyland. They lived there for 60 years. Nedra loved the warm weather and California sunshine. She was a devoted Los Angeles Angels fan and rarely missed watching their games. Nedra enjoyed cross stitching, reading, bowling and doing puzzles.

Family was everything to Nedra. Nothing made her happier than visits from her children and grandchildren. They often played competitive games of Shanghai together. Nedra was known for sending thoughtful birthday and holiday cards. There was always a bowl of fresh fruit on the table, candy on the counter and Haagen Dazs ice cream in the freezer. She appreciated visits from friends. She was kind and loving and people always felt welcome in her home.

Nedra was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her life was filled with Christlike service. She was a temple ordinance worker at the Los Angeles Temple for three years. Nedra found great joy singing in the church choir. Nedra volunteered in many capacities at church, including primary teacher, Relief Society President and Stake Relief Society President.

Nedra is survived by her husband of 70 years, Harold Dean Bowles, her children Jeff (Karla) Bowles, David Bowles, Darryl (Socorro) Bowles, Bonnie (Paul) Tavernier, Mark (Amanda) Bowles, Amy (Robert) Anderson, 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, (Wallace Berry Simmons and Gertrude Muriel Bigler), two brothers (Wallace LaVell Simmons and Ralph Bigler Simmons), and grandson (Justin Michael Anderson).

Nedra will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all that associated with her.
