Patricia Ann Hanley Carpenter, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 with her husband of 62 years, Stephen Paul Carpenter, by her side, along with other family members, in Sandy, Utah at Sunrise Assisted Living.
Patti was born on September 27, 1940 in Modesto, California. She grew up in Oakdale and Corcoran, California, and graduated from Corcoran High School in 1958. Patti was a majorette for her high school marching band. Patti loved to spend her summers horseback riding with her cousins, fishing with her dad and brother at nearby Sequoia Lake, and delivering butane to the local cotton farms alongside her dad.
Patti earned an associate degree from Fresno State College and bachelor's degree in education from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). While attending UCLA, Patti, met her soon to be husband, Paul, at Belmont Shore Beach in Long Beach, CA. At the time, Paul was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. Shortly after, Patti and Paul were married on February 14, 1964 in the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Washington, D.C. Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 18, 1975. The U.S. Navy gave Patti and Paul the fortune of living in Coronado and Monterey, California; Bangkok, Thailand; Newport, Rhode Island; and Springfield, Virginia / Washington, D.C. In 2001, Patti and Paul moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where they served as Mission Leaders for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission. After their church mission, they resided in both Draper and Murray, Utah.
Patti was an amazing Wife, Mom, and Grandma. She knew her family well and was very involved in their daily lives. Some of Patti’s favorite hobbies were cooking gourmet meals, hosting dinner parties, fashion, gardening, genealogy, enjoying the sunshine, collecting antiques, reading, studying the scriptures, making Sunday dinners for her grandchildren and their friends, Friday hair appointments, and serving in numerous church callings, including Young Women’s, Relief Society, Seminary Teacher, and Mission Leader.
Patti leaves behind her husband, Paul; brother, Jack Jr.; and her children, Casey (Jeni) Carpenter, Scott (Bobette) Carpenter, Sarah (Chad) Evans, and Matthew Carpenter. Patti also leaves her grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon, Sydney, Brooke, Andie, Cameron, Caden, Audrey, Kylie, Zachary, Carter, Ryan, Chloe, and Neil. She also leaves her two nieces, Christine and Caroline, and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lillian Hanley; and Hobbes, the dog.
Patti’s beautiful life will be celebrated with family on June 12, 2026 in Draper, Utah and she will be laid to rest in Preston, Idaho.
A special thanks to the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living and Inspiration Hospice in Sandy, Utah for showing such kindness and care to Patti, Paul and their family.
