Rex Franklin Buchanan

Rex Franklin Buchanan passed away peacefully on March 29, 2023 at the age of 74, from health complications. Rex was born on September 22, 1949 in Murray, Utah to Richard William and Margurite Buchanan.

He grew up in Midvale, Utah with his four siblings (Mignon, Dan, Rex, Lyle, and Warren) on a chicken farm. Along with his daily chores, Rex and his siblings found many ways to cause mischief. He went to Hillcrest High School where he lettered in track and field. After high school, he was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Cumorah, New York.

On March 14, 1975, he married Cherie Lee Bunting in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised four children in Draper, Utah. Rex was an active member of the LDS church; he had a strong testimony and love for the gospel. He served in many church callings throughout his life.

Rex enjoyed being outdoors. He took his family on many camping trips. His favorite being the annual Fish Lake trip. Rex and his brothers enjoyed hunting and fishing, which they all shared with their children. He had a passion for bowling. Rex bowled for over 54 years. During that time, he bowled a perfect 300. Rex was a devoted family man. He enjoyed doing household projects, yardwork, gardening, and supporting his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Cherie; children: Brian (Charise), Brent (Wendy), Amy (Ben Taylor), Stacy (Colby Walker), and 11 grandchildren; his siblings: Mignon (Ray Jones), Dan (Jean), Lyle (Debra), Warren; his in-laws: Robert and LaMoyne Bunting, Paula (Russell Morley), Shanna (Steve Slatter), and Denise (Perry Maw).

He is preceded in death by his father Richard William and his mother Thelma Margurite, sister-in-law Debbi Buchanan, and brother-in-law Dennis Barney.

A viewing will be held April 2, 2023 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 S. 700 E., Draper, Utah 84020. A viewing will be held Monday morning at 10 am at the Draper 2nd Ward building, 1617 E. 12700 S., Draper, Utah 84020. Funeral services to follow at 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. He will be laid to rest at Larkin Cemetery later that day.
