On July 18, 1958, the world became a little louder, a little faster, and a lot more opinionated with the birth of a man who would go on to live life entirely on his own terms.
On April 19th, 2026, at the age of 67, he left us after battling a worthy fight to cancer. We want to give a special thanks to True North Hospice and Emma's Elderly Home Care for their terrific services to Rex and the countless family members and friends. He felt so loved and cared for.
A proud resident of Magna, Utah, he was a man who found joy in the simple and the thrilling alike. If it had wheels, horsepower, or the potential to kick up sand at the dunes, he was all in. Whether he was behind the wheel or just talking about it, cars weren’t just a hobby, they were his way of life, owning a family operated auto business, Chick's Auto, for many years.
He was famously opinionated, never one to hold back what he thought (whether you asked or not), and somehow, that honesty became one of the things people loved most about him. You always knew where you stood.
But above all else, his greatest pride and deepest love was his family. He remained a dedicated co-parent and friend to his former wife, Rashelle Garay, while raising their son. His son meant the world to him, and his three granddaughters were, without question, the true bosses of his heart. They brought out his softest side; the side that would reluctantly bow down after sneaking them some gummy snacks!
He lived fully, loved fiercely, and left behind stories that will be told with laughter for years to come. His absence leaves a quiet that feels unfamiliar, but also a legacy that feels unmistakably him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy McNabb, and two siblings, Lorraine Dominguez and Ron Lehmer.
He is survived by his father, Charles Butcher, son, Morgan (Kami) Butcher, siblings, Vera Petersen (Steve Christianson), Paul (Nancy) Lehmer, Brenda Jones (Curtis Stevens), Susan (Jim) Bacon, Nanette Butcher, Loura (Buddy) Sorenson, Marjorie (Mike) McClelland, Arletta (Gary) Dawes, Valerie (Eric) McCollum and his three beloved granddaughters (Ellie, Brystol, Charlotte), who will carry forward his spirit, his stubbornness, and hopefully, at least some of his sense of humor.
In his honor of Rex, take a drive, kick up some sand, say exactly what’s on your mind.
Celebration of Life information will follow shortly. We will post with further details and location.
