Rhonda Jean Granquist, age 76, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 23, 2025 with her family by her side.
Rhonda was born March 30, 1949 in Murray, Utah to George N. and Barbara Rosse' Phelps. Much of her childhood was spent with her grandparents, Noel and Christine Rosse', whom she loved dearly.
She spent the majority of her life living in Midvale, Utah and was very proud of the roots she had there. It was always home. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1967 and went on to study at Brigham Young University.
She met James Granquist on a blind date in 1969. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 20, 1970. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before Jim's passing in 2022. They were blessed with four children: Ryan, Liz, Katie, and Annie.
After her kids were in school, she spent her days working for Deseret Book, which enhanced her love of reading. She accumulated a vast library and kept close records of every book she ever read. It's a wonder she ever had a paycheck! She loved her job and all the people she worked with for close to 30 years.
Rhonda loved a good fountain Diet Coke, burritos, reading a good book, and loving on her cats. She loved traveling the world with Jim and her family. Her favorites were cruising and long road trips, but only so she could read a good book along the way.
Rhonda was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and loved serving others. She served in many callings in the church throughout her life, with her favorite being Relief Society President (for nearly 8 consecutive years!) and Visiting Teacher.
The best part of life happened when Rhonda's grandchildren started coming along. She loved them and spoiled them. She supported them in all their endeavors. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play their various sports, and would pound her cane enthusiastically on the bleachers to cheer them on. Everyone knew Grandma was at the game when the pounding started. Long live the cane!
After much convincing, Jim and Rhonda hesitantly sold their home of over 42 years in Midvale. They built a place to call home in Riverton, Utah. Rhonda lived in her mother-in-law home for almost 4 years. She made an excellent housemate with Dan, Annie, Titan, and Sydney. Many thanks to the Palmer's for sharing their home, for keeping an eye on mom, and not letting her accumulate too much stuff!
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Ryan (Barbra), Liz (Shawn), Katie (Mike), and Annie (Dan); her 13 grandchildren: Anna (Tyler), Erin, Mikey (Cheyanna), Ethan (Ariana), Jenna (Jarius), Rachel, Holly, Matthew, Mason, Allie, Titan, Charlie, and Sydney; and three great-grandchildren: Frankie, Scottie, and Burton. Also surviving her is her sister Vickie and her brother Marty.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jim and her parents, along with a multitude of beloved cats.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 11:00am at the LDS Stake Center on 12345 South 2700 West in Riverton, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30am at the same location. There will also be a viewing on Thursday evening, August 28, 2025 from 6:00-8:00pm at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street in Midvale. Interment will be with Jim at the Midvale City Cemetery, right next to her beloved grandparents.
