Richard Clyde Crane passed away peacefully June 15, 2025 at his home in Sandy, Utah. He was born March 22, 1945 in Salt Lake City to James Clyde Crane and Betty Elaine Brady, and raised by his Father and Mother, Ora Crane. He grew up in Draper, Utah and graduated from Jordan High School in 1963 where he met his wife, Gloria Jean Paget. They were married in Sandy, Utah on May 16, 1964 and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He worked while earning his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah, and later earned his Master’s Degree.
He worked as a Teacher and Coach at Eisenhower Junior High for most of his career. Later on, he was a High School Counselor for a few years, and finished his career as a recruiter at SLCC. He had a few nicknames and most knew him as Dick, but he was Tricky to family and friends and Coach Crane to his students. For us lucky few, he had the best title which was sweetheart, Dad and Grandpa. He loved spending time with his family and being outdoors.
He is survived by his beautiful, loving wife Gloria, his children Kelly Cooke, Stephanie and Jason Butterfield, Todd and Jen Crane, and Stacy Crane. His grandchildren, Randi Jo and Ezra Falatea, Cody and Sydnie Butterfield, Cayden and Rory Butterfield, Connor, Garrett and Ella Crane, Rowan, Lilly and Sasha Chidester, and 7 Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lyndi Ann Cooke, his sister Cathy Crane Holder and his brother Scott “Nortie” Crane.
Viewings will be held Friday, June 20th at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S State in Midvale from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and Saturday at the chapel, 10885 S Pampas Dr in Sandy from 10:00 to 10:45 am. Funeral services will be held at the chapel at 11:00 am, with graveside services to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E Dimple Dell Rd in Sandy.
