Reunited with the love of his life, Laura Martinez, Ricky M. Mair, 57, of Henefer, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on September 1st, 2025. His passing was sudden and leaves a deep ache in the hearts of his loved ones.
Ricky M. Mair was born on September 21, 1967, in Coalville, Utah, to Marvin A. Mair and Beverly Carter. Born six and a half weeks early and weighing just five pounds, he began life small but grew to be a tall and strong man. He attended North Summit schools, graduating from North Summit High School, where he proudly played on the Braves basketball team that won the championship during his junior year.
Rick grew up near Echo Reservoir alongside his sister Shelley, where they shared countless memories together—throwing rocks in the river, raising chickens, pigs, rabbits, and peacocks, hunting, and camping in the Uintas. He loved family gatherings, especially Carter and Bates reunions and Christmas parties at Echo. And if you saw a hat, you knew Rick was coming.
Throughout his life, Rick was known as a hard worker. He attended Davis Area Tech Center and later worked for the North Summit School District, Bountiful City and Power Company, Park Plaza, Compax, and Rowser Construction Co. At Rowser, he not only found meaningful work but also formed lasting friendships and enjoyed traveling to new places. His coworkers became like family, and he shared a special bond with them.
Rick’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He met Laura Martinez, the love of his life, and together they shared 27 years. They lived in Salt Lake City, working and raising Laura’s four children. Laura passed away in December 2022, and Rick later returned to Henefer to be with his parents, Marvin and Beverly, who remain an example of love, faith, and strength for their family even as they now endure the loss of both their daughter Shelley and their son Rick.
Rick is survived by his parents, Marvin and Beverly Mair; his son, Shilo (MaKayla) Mair; and Laura’s children, whom he loved as his own: Matt, Mark, Adam, and Samantha Martinez. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Twins Krew&McCoy, Jaxtyn, and Christopher Mair; Benicio and Kyarah Valencia; and Nala Crawford, along with her father, Barry Crawford.
He is further survived by his nephews Cody (Diane) Sargent and their daughter Tinleigh, and Garret (Keisha) Sargent and their children Lucian and Willow. He is also remembered by his uncles Brent Mair and Wayne (Kay) Carter, and his aunt Gloria (Bob) Kenley.
Rick was preceded in death by the love of his life, Laura Martinez; his sister, Shelley Sargent; his grandparents; many aunts and uncles; and nephews.
Though gone too soon, Rick’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with his love Laura and his sister Shelley.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 13th, 2025, from 10:30–11:45 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Henefer, Utah, followed by a graveside service at Noon for family and friends at the Henefer Cemetery.
Funeral services are provided by Goff Mortuary.
