Robert "Bob" D. Chidester

Our beloved husband and father Robert D. “Bob” Chidester completed his mission on earth and returned to his Father in Heaven on July 31, 2026. Bob was born July 15, 1937, the first born of Glen M. Chidester and Doris F. Miller. He grew up in Sandy, Utah on a small family farm with his six younger siblings and two older half-sisters. He graduated from Jordan High School, then joined the US Navy where he served honorably in the South Pacific. Bob attended the University of Utah before taking a job with Hercules Bacchus Works where he worked for 37 years in a lab developing solid propellant rocket fuel for defense and space exploration.

Bob married Shirley Berry on September 1, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple where they were sealed as husband and wife for time and all eternity. They raised six children in Draper, Utah where Bob faithfully served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as a counselor in the bishopric, a Stake Clerk, and a member of the Stake High Council. In their later years Bob and Shirley served two local church missions, and also served together as temple workers in the Jordan River Temple.

Bob’s full devotion was centered around Jesus Christ, which reflected in his love and dedication to his family. He worked hard to provide for his family while teaching them the value of labor and fun. He loved doing yard work with his children and going on annual summer road trips together as a family. He was known for his honesty and integrity, his work ethic, his outgoing nature, and his love for everyone around him. He will always be remembered for his devotion to God, family, and country.

Bob is survived by his wife Shirley and their six children: Bryce (Wendy), Natalie, Sheila, Barry, Kregg (Esther) and Andrea (Bryan), as well as 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren (and counting), and his siblings Dean (Vickie), Carolyn and Larry (Judy).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15th at the Draper 2nd Ward chapel located at 1617 E Richins Road, with a viewing at 11:00 AM and the funeral following at 12:00 PM. Interment to follow services at Crescent Cemetery, 11105 S. State Street, Sandy.
