Bob Margetts, 87, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at Intermountain Medical Center with his daughter and granddaughter at his side.
He was born May 26, 1939, in Sandy, Utah, and grew up in Midvale and Sandy in the house his father built in 1945. He served in the United States Army, stationed in Hawaii as a special communications officer, where he and his unit decoded messages sent from Saigon during the Vietnam War. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Utah State University.
Bob married Sharon Evans on June 28, 1991, and the two of them celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this past June. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple on September 21, 2024.
He spent his career at Kennecott Copper, working his way up to plant superintendent of the refinery before retiring in 1996. In retirement he became an options trader, a pursuit that suited a man who liked numbers, patience, and calling his own shots.
He loved the mountains and spent as much time in them as he could — exploring the Utah backroads, hunting deer with both bow and rifle, fishing at Strawberry Reservoir, and watching football. Closer to home, he loved his garden and took real pride in his lawn. He mowed it himself, and he had one standing instruction for anyone who borrowed the mower: Don't chip the cement.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon Margetts; his son, Michael (Katya) Margetts; his daughter, Jolyn (DJ) Congrove; his brother, Don (Janice) Margetts; his sister, Sandra Espinoza; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delwyn and Juanita Margetts, and his brother, Gene Margetts.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 9:00 to 10:45 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the Mountain West 2nd Ward, 2901 West 9000 South, West Jordan. Interment to follow services at West Jordan City Cemetery, 7800 South 1300 West, West Jordan.
