Roland Lynn Parkin, age 85, of Nephi, Utah, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025. He was born on August 18, 1940, to loving parents in Leadville, Colorado. He grew up with a strong sense of faith, service, and hard work that he carried throughout his life. Roland married his sweetheart, Annette Stephensen, on October 7, 1961, and their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Utah Temple on July 16, 1966. The loving couple just celebrated 64 years of marriage. Together they built a wonderful life filled with love, faith, and devotion to family.
They were blessed with six children: Kip of Nephi, Ken (Janae) of St. George; Kort (Kayla) of McKiney, Texas; Kimberly (Don) Roundy of Nephi; Kris (Mindy) of Nephi; and Kyle (Chalene) of Salem. Roland and Annette’s posterity includes 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy to his life.
A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roland served diligently in many callings, including on the High Council, in the bishopric, and in the Elder’s Quorum presidency. Together, he and Annette served in the Arizona Phoenix mission from 2009 to 2011, assigned to the Navajo reservation. They shared their love and testimony of Jesus Christ with the people they met.
Roland honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961, and later in the Army National Guard from 1981 to 1999. After earning a bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University, Roland was employed as a teacher at Nebo school district in Payson and Spanish Fork high schools, educating students in automotive repair. There he influenced the lives of countless students and colleagues.
Roland is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and his son Kort. Roland will be remembered for his faith in God and Jesus Christ, his steady work ethic, his sense of humor, and the deep love he has for his family.
Graveside services for Roland will be on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, open to all at 2:30 p.m. at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, Utah.
