Sandra (Powell) Brooks was born on June 21, 1938, to Roy and Emma Mae (Peterson) Powell in Tooele, Utah at the end of the great depression. Her childhood was spent in Duchesne, UT and also Orem, UT where she learned to work hard alongside her siblings. Sandy married Ralph Albert Brooks on May 19, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ralph and Sandy built their first home on the bench in Lehi, Utah where they worked hard and built their family. They raised 5 children while living on the bench, Tony, Cindy, Debbie, Stony, and Jason. In 1973 they moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah where they stayed until 1991, when they decided to retire and move to Levan, Utah.
Sandy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in various callings. She served in the cannery for 20 years, even after she was released. Gardening and food preservation was very important to her and she enjoyed helping and teaching others about it. She also served as Relief Society President in Levan and loved serving the sisters in her ward and town. After Ralph passed in 2011, Sandy continued to live in Levan until her health declined. Sandy was diagnosed with Dementia and placed in a care center in Centerfield, UT in 2023. After a long 3-year battle, she went home on May 31, 2026, to her loving Heavenly Father and her family.
She is survived by her daughter: Cindy (Rick) LaCrue, daughter: Debbie (Blake) Robertson, son: Stony (Stacy) Brooks, son: Jason (Yuko) Brooks, her brother Doug (Linda) Powell, and sisters Joanann (Tom) Chorniak and Crystal Powell.
Sandy was blessed in life with 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren with one more coming in November.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Brooks, her son Tony Brooks, her grandson Andrew LaCrue, her parents Roy and Emma Powell and her brothers Curly, Joe, Frank, Jim, Rex, Jack, and sisters Dora (Glen) Webb and Eva (Jim) Ritch.
Funeral services to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026 at the Levan Town Church located at 25 N 100 E, Levan, UT 84639. A viewing will be held from 9:30 am-10:45 am with a funeral beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Levan Town Cemetery.
