Sharleen Malmgren Jarrett

Our beloved wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma Sharleen passed away peacefully in her home in Cottonwood Heights on April 16, 2024 at the age of 86. Born on Dec. 24, 1937 in Levan, Utah to parents Erick Cleo Malmgren and Velma Faye Pierce Malmgren. She was the second child of five, her siblings are Donna, Ed, Beverly and Renae. She was taught to work hard as a child and kept this work ethic throughout her life.

Sharleen graduated from Juab High in 1956 as the valedictorian. A week later she married Glen Ray Jarrett on May 26, 1956, in her parents home in Levan. They directly moved to Salt Lake City where they have lived ever since. They have three children, Stacy Jarrett Egan (Sterling), Scott Glen Jarrett (Kristi) and Pamela Jarrett Sullivan (Mark). They were all sealed in the Jordan River Temple Jan. 31, 2004.

Sharleen was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a primary teacher for 20 years, her favorite calling was as librarian for more than 10 years. Sharleen and Glen served an inter-city mission in Salt Lake City where they helped a group home on Sundays at church and Mondays for Family Home Evening.

Sharleen was a dental assistant during the first 3 years of their marriage. When they started the Cottonwood Garage in 1962, she was the bookkeeper. She always worked hard as a mother and homemaker. She loved gardening, there was never a weed to be found in her vegetable garden and she spent countless hours in her rose garden. Pink roses are her favorite flower. Pink & turquoise are her favorite colors!

With her friends she learned to bowl, snow ski, and golf. She was involved for many years in the Mining Wives Club and a member of several Bridge clubs. Most recently she became a member of the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers. Mom loved the “lunch bunch” from her ward. She loved and kept in contact with friends her entire life.

Mom loved her sweets, she always had her stash of chocolate. Every Christmas she'd be given so many Turtles, she'd make them last the entire year. Mom was a big Utah Jazz fan. They had season tickets for years, then watched the games on TV or recorded them if they couldn't watch them live.

Family always came first, she was a dedicated wife and mother. She was in constant motion. A meal was not served by her unless there was a salad and a vegetable. She perfected her bread recipe, then wore her bread machine out making loaves for birthday gifts for each family member (a favorite gift). She never missed a game: soccer, volleyball, football, tennis, wrestling, baseball; she learned the rules for many sports. She loved dance and music recitals as well as 4-H and rodeo queen events. She was always there to support her kids, grandkids and even some of the great grandkids’ activities. Mom loved to play games, especially cards, her card game of choice was Hand and Foot, she would coach us all on the smartest moves. Her grandkids remember many games of Trouble, Monopoly, Old Maid, Fish and Memory with her. Mom always enjoyed reading books with all the kids.

Sharleen is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Donna and grandson John Ross Sullivan. She is survived by her children, 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
