Sherma Newbold Nixon Brown

Sherma Newbold Nixon Brown, age 84, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, in Murray, Utah, surrounded by those who loved her.

Born on July 16, 1942, to William (Bill) and Dorthea (Dot) Newbold, Sherma brought warmth, kindness, and compassion to everyone she met.

She grew up in South Jordan, Utah, where she could often be found riding horses bareback or working at her mother’s flower shop, which she later took over and operated for many years.

Sherma attended Bingham High School, where she was a Minerette. A talented musician, she shared her gift for playing the piano by accompanying choir groups and special musical numbers.

After high school, Sherma attended BYU, where she met Andrew (Andy) Nixon. They married and were blessed with two children, Andrew Richard Nixon and Crystal Michelle Nixon. She later married Robert (Bob) L. Brown, who shared an important chapter of her life. Bob preceded her in death in 2011.

Sherma is survived by her son, Andrew Nixon; her four legged companion, Beau Jax; her grandchildren, Theron (Miranda) Cracraft, Alexandra (Jason) Albrecht, Adeline Nielsen, and Thayne Nielsen; 13 great-grandchildren; a great great granddaughter on the way and several cousins who held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her daughter, Crystal Michelle Nixon Jerman; her father, William (Bill) Newbold; her mother, Dorthea (Dot) Newbold Bull; her stepfather, Douglas (Doug) Bull; her sister, Marilyn Strasburg; and her brother, W. Stuart Newbold.

Services

A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah.

In keeping with Sherma’s wishes, cremation will follow the viewing. Interment of her cremated remains will take place at a later date, where Sherma will be reunited with her daughter in their final resting place.
