Shirley May Uriarte

Shirley May Ryan Uriarte passed away December 25th, 2021 at the University of Utah Hospital surrounded by her children at the age of 90.

She was born in the Miners Hospital in Park City, Utah to Delbert and Irma Ryan, on May 17, 1931, where she was the oldest of 5 girls. She married Joe Uriarte on March 3, 1950. They had 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls.

They lived and raised their children in Park City, then moved to Midvale, Utah, prior to her retirement from Parleys Elementary where she was manager of the kitchen.

She was an avid seamstress, and she loved making clothes for her 6 children. She loved to golf, doing crafts, toll painting where Joe would cut out the wood. They made a great team. She liked remodeling projects like tearing out floors, or knocking down walls while her husband was working or hunting, but her plan was often foiled when dad arrived home in middle of her demo. In the end Dad and Uncle Lee would have to finish the project.

Her favorite part, anyway, was mostly the demo.

She enjoyed traveling, especially cruising with her family. She loved baking and we know grandma's cookies made everything better. Mom was always ready to play games, especially a good card game.

We love the beautiful cherry tree in her back yard, that was a favorite climbing tree for her many grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Deborah (David) Davenport, Justin's wife Tangee Uriarte, Carol (Ken) Roberts, Tony Uriarte, Barbara (Cliff) Martinez, Mark (Julie) Uriarte, her 97 grandchildren, and her sisters Carol Mawhinney, Sue (Bill) Stangler, Mary Ann (Rex) McDonald and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, sister, and 2 grandsons.

Mom was 90 years loved, and will forever be our Christmas Angel.

There will be a visitation at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, on Wednesday, December 29 at 11:00 am, followed by a memorial service at 12 noon. Interment, Midvale City Cemetery.

The funeral service will be livestreamed on the Goff Mortuary Facebook page.
