Steven Harry Demas

Steven Harry Demas, 68, passed away on July 13, 2021 at his home in Riverton. He was born February 11, 1953 in Murray, Utah to Harry Leland Demas and Cuma Alvey Demas. He was their only son along with four sisters.

As a young boy he moved with his parents when his dad was called to work on the church farm in Las Vegas, Nevada. There he had lots of friends. His first elementary school was in North Las Vegas, Nevada. His first pet was a dog named Smokey. He moved to Sandy, Utah when he was 15 years old.

Steven married Terri Lyn Springer on May 9, 1974 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Steven built homes in the Salt Lake Valley and then was hired by Sandy City Fire Department and went up through the ranks to Battalion Chief and retired after 40 years of service as a firefighter and EMT. He earned many awards and had many accomplishments. He was president of the Utah State Fireman's Association 1999-2000. He is on the board of the Firefighters Credit Union in Salt Lake City, Utah. On his days off he finished homes, basements and poured cement. He spent many nights in school furthering his education.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was active in the Boys Scouts of America helping many boys including his son Scott attain their Eagle Scout Award. He served as scout master in his ward and assistant scout master at the National Boy Scout Jamboree in 1989.

He always helped out everyone that he knew. If he heard of anything he would drop what he was doing and go help. Terri and Scott were the love of his life and he catered to their every need and whim. As a family they loved traveling across country visiting many temples and meeting many country stars. He loves country music. He pulled their travel trailer across the United States eight times.

Survived by his son, Scott Steven Demas, sister Stacey (Dan) Tongish, brother-in-law Ron Mabey. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Terri , sisters, Shannon (Ernie) Cobbley, Suzanne Mabey, and Sherrie Demas.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. Interment: Sandy City Cemetery.
