Sylvia Marshall Norton

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  Sylvia passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 27th.  She was born April 19, 1925, in Santaquin, UT to Rolland and Vaughan Meacham Marshall. She married the love of her life, Jack Norton on May 25,1943.

In her youth, Sylvia’s family moved many times.  Her most loved memories were living in Heyburn, ID, Bingham, UT, and Provo, UT.  Sylvia had many health issues throughout her life. She always maintained a good attitude and found ways to work around her ailments.  She was often singing “count your many blessings” in the hardest of times.

Sylvia and Jack spent 72 years together, they loved raising their children, Craig and Shellie, and spending as much time with their grandchildren as possible.  Unfortunately, Craig was taken too soon, Sylvia missed him immensely.  Together Jack and Sylvia spent time at their cabin built by Jack and exploring the United States in their travel trailer.  As a testament to their love, Sylvia cared for Jack in his later years and failing health.  She was sealed to Jack in the Jordan River Temple at the age of 97, a perfect example of her fighting spirit.

In addition to family mentioned below, she will be missed by her friends Nita Call and Christina Jensen who provided unbelievable support during her final years.

She will be deeply missed by those who survive her: her daughter, Shellie (Dan) May; her grandchildren; Russell (Lola) May, Alex (Gerrit) van Langeveld, Ross (Jolie) May, Rebecca May, Matt (Amanda) May, and Ted (Samantha) May; also, her 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack Norton, her son Craig Norton, three sisters, and three brothers.

Funeral Services will be held in her honor at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S State, Midvale, on Saturday, February 3rd at 11 am, with a viewing from 10-10:45 am. Following the funeral, the grave dedication will take place at the Sandy City Cemetery.
