Terry Holmes

Terry Holmes, 78, Beloved Husband, Father, and Veteran, Sails On

Terry Lee Holmes, 78, of Moroni, Utah, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024 in Provo, Utah, with his three children by his side.

Born in Oak Park, Illinois, on November 28, 1945 to John C. and Ruth Holmes and raised with his two siblings, Deborah Holmes and Michael Holmes.

Graduating from Fullerton High School in 1963, he quickly embarked on a journey that saw him serving his country in the United States Navy beginning in 1965. He was later stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam from 1967 – 1969 during the Vietnam War and assigned to the USS Walke DD-723 warship, reaching the rank of EM3.

Terry found his anchor in his beloved wife, Joanne. Together, with Joanne’s son, Kevin, they built a beautiful family welcoming three additional children: son, Erik, daughter Tara, and son David. His love for his family was a pillar of strength and support throughout their lives.

Terry and Joanne settled and lived most of their lives in Southern California raising their four children in Riverside and later Perris (Gavilan Hills), California until his retirement led the family to Utah. He was a dedicated husband, father, friend, and provider. He worked in several different industries until finally settling on commercial truck driving in the early 80’s and was employed by PepsiCo for 23 years.

Beyond his dedication to family, Terry possessed a spirit of adventure, or as we like to joke, shenanigans. In his early adult years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, taking his kids camping and fishing, and hanging with his close high school buddies. After his retirement, he continued doing those things with his grandchildren, adding in shooting guns and hunting to his list of hobbies.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne and stepson, Kevin, his parents, Ruth Holmes and John C. Holmes, in-laws, Heber and Jackie Martin, Karen and Floyd Waldron, Patty Martin (Steve), nieces Carrie Thompson and Jamie Nordell (Mickey), great nephew Caleb Naylor, and childhood Best Friend Terry Eisenberg. He is survived by his loving children, Erik (Carrie), Tara, and David (Rachel); grandchildren, Audrey, Alia (Kyler), Jayden, Kail, Piper, his newest little grandson, Ronin, his adopted grandchildren Jared (Breanna) and Jazail; his great grandchildren, Colton, Rylynn, and Belimy, his brother Mike (Carol), and a host of cherished friends and extended family.

A celebration of life for Terry will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1125 North 400 East, Nephi, Utah. There will be a graveside service with Military Honors following his memorial service. He will be laid to rest next to his wife and eternal companion, Joanne, at the Vine Bluff Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his memory, an organization Terry felt strongly about and donated to monthly.

Terry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
