Thomas Werner Levanti

Thomas Werner (Herlant) Levanti, of Sandy, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at Intermountain Medical Center.

He was born on May 12, 1968, in Nürnberg, Germany.

Tom grew up in Germany and Norwich, Connecticut. He attended Norwich Free Academy. After high school, he joined the United States Army and served his country proudly, including the Invasion of Panama as a Ranger until his honorable discharge.

Tom then opened Petroleum Consulting Services and was an owner and partner of several Martial Arts studios in California, as well as in Utah, where he ultimately chose to settle down.

He had a love of Martial Arts, including teaching self defense to caregivers. He competed in the 2005 Pan Ams competition where he won 3rd place in the Master 2/Purple/Male/Medium Heavy with Joe Moreira's team. He was a 2nd degree blackbelt in BJJ.

He also worked at Primary Children's Hospital as the lead security officer and then quickly advanced to become the Security Supervisor.

His most proud accomplishment in life was his three beautiful children. They were his greatest loves. He was a loving father, devoted fiancée, protective brother, uncle and cousin.

He is survived by his children; daughters, Brittany Levanti and Brandi Levanti; a son, Markus Levanti, all of Sandy; his finacée and true love, Colette Bailey, of Sandy; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Robert Stearns, of Waxahachie, Tx; several nieces, nephews, Aunts, Uncles and cousins, especially his cousins, whom he considered to be his siblings, Gilbert Eckert, of Germany, and Marion (Eckert) Mahnke, of St. Augustine, FL.

He was joyously reunited with his grandparents, Frank and Dorothy Levanti; younger sister, Michelle Levanti; his beloved Tante Brigitte and Onkel Werner Eckert; his Opa, Stanislaw Wszolek; and his cherished Oma, Edith Maria Herlant.

Family and friends may visit from 6 to 7 pm on Friday, Jan. 26th, with his memorial service beginning at 7 pm at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper. A private burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's  memory may be made to a charity he was very passionate about - Operation Underground Railroad.
