Thomas Ether Reese

Thomas Ether Reese, August 19, 1943 – July 6, 2022, age 78, passed away peacefully in his apartment at Harmony Hills Assisted Living (with loving support and an incredible staff) in Midvale, Utah, July 6, 2022. Many thanks to the staff at Harmony Hills for their love, kindness, and merciful care of Thomas over the years. Thomas was a friend to all at Harmony Hills. He was known for his graciousness, a cheerful disposition even in difficult and trying circumstances, and for his undying love for his children. “I love them all,” he said often.

Thomas was born in Logan, Utah to his devoted parents, Lorin Fred Reese and Irene (Hendricks) Reese. He is survived by eight children -- son, Michael Troy Shuford (Reese); son, Thomas Blake Reese; daughter, Michelle Marie Reese; daughter, Kristen Lynn Reese; daughter, Taunie Machel Morgan (Reese); son, Teryl Bret Reese; son, Travis Bart Rees; daughter, Cherina Lee Reese; and two brothers, Eugene Reese and Anthony Reese, and 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Thomas loved the outdoors. He loved to fish, and camp and hike particularly in Wyoming in the Tetons, at Jackson Hole, and Island Park areas, and along the Lemhi River area in Idaho.

He led a distinctive career as a motivational speaker and later as a math teacher in several junior high schools in the Salt Lake City and surrounding areas. He received his master’s degree from the University of Santa Clara. He did post graduate studies at the Institute of Behavioral Sciences in California. Thomas was fascinated with problem solving using the Golden Ratio of Universal Creation theories of famous math scientists in the world: Leonardo Da Vinci, the Golden Proportion and Vitruvian Man; Leonardo Fibonacci’s Problem Solving; and Dr. George Polya, Geometric Statistics of an N-Agon or Golden Ratio, to name a few.

Thomas was cremated at Goff Mortuary in Midvale, Utah on Friday, July 8, 2022, and will be buried alongside his parents at Rose Hill Cemetery, Idaho Falls, Idaho on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., 2355 Rollandet Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83402.
