Thomas Wolters

March 7, 1945 — September 11, 2023

Thomas Wolters

Our family Patriarch was called home to God on September 11, 2023 after valiantly fighting and constantly shining the last three years. Thomas Eugene Wolters was born on March 7, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York to John and Dorothy Wolters. The middle of three children he met his love, graduated high school, bested Fast Eddie and married our awesome Mom, Mary Jo Muller in 1966. Tom joined the United States Navy later that same year and was honorably discharged in 1970. For a time period that accounts for only roughly 5% of his life, it had such an exponentially positive effect and he was proud of his service before it was chic to publicly thank servicemen and women. Dad was patriotic, organized, disciplined, efficient and loyal.

Tom understood early that a happy wife is a happy life, so he gave no pushback when Mary Jo wanted to move to Utah, where her parents had recently moved. They set up in Bountiful where Tom worked for Sperry Univac with his father-in-law. Eventually, Tom and Mary Jo moved to Sandy, UT where he put the stem on the apple three times. He continued working for Sperry as it changed to Unisys where he got laid off twice, got re-hired at higher salary twice. He worked for the same company for close to 40 years and met some amazing people he truly loved and only had to work with one putz named Rodney.

Tom was devastated when he lost his love, Mary Jo, to cancer in December of 2002. But like the stud he was, he grieved, he cleaned and carried on. He was an exceptional Grandfather of 5. He was an avid golfer and golfed every course in the state of Utah except one. Tom was also passionate about history and traveling the country while visiting our Nation’s National Parks. He loved sharing his passions with his family and always had his eyes forward. His optimism was contagious, his love was sincere and he had so many wonderful friends.

Survived by his three sons Kevin (Amy), Michael (Mindy) and Matthew, as well as his grandchildren Chase, Cadence, Addison, Quinn and Berlyn and sister, Mary. Preceded to the Pearly Gates by his Mom and Dad (John and Dot), older brother (Jack) and beloved wife (Mary Jo).

Thank you to Dr. Kelly Murnin and Dr. Sarah Gilligan at UofU Health, Dr. Cirulis and Dr. Nibley at IHC Murray, Dr. Sethi at Mountainstar. Thank you to the wonderful nurses at Hospice who took great of our Dad.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9800 South 1700 East, Sandy, Utah. Viewing will be Thursday, September 14 at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State St. where friends may call 6-8:00 p.m. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
