Tillie Silva

Our Mom, Tillie, passed away at the age of 93, peacefully at home, on May 19, 2023 surrounded by her family.

She was born to Manuel and Rebecca Chavez Villanueva on June 03, 1929 in Villanueva, New Mexico. Tillie had ten brothers and one sister, She was the last of her siblings to pass.

Tillie was married to Leo E. Silva in New Mexico in 1949. Leo passed away in 1978, leaving Tillie Matriarch of the family.

As matriarch of the Silva family, Tillie kept a close watch over all of her grandchildren as they grew up, she did not want any of them going to sitters, when she was fully capable of caring for them. She would play baseball with them, dress up & play dolls, among other things. She loved to cook for everyone. Anytime people stopped by, she was whipping up some delicious food for them. Many wanted her recipes which were not written down. She would say, “Come make them with me - watch and learn.”

Tillie was preceded in death by: her husband - Leo E. Silva, her son - Kay Kenneth, her daughter - Rebecca, her son-in laws - Ralph Sanchez, Jerry Garcia, and Tony Fresquez, her grandson’s - Ricky and Steven Garcia, her parents, her ten brothers, and her sister.

Tillie leaves behind to cherish her memories: her children, JoAnn Sanchez (Ralph) – Las Vegas, NM., Emily Garcia (Jerry) - Midvale, UT., Rose Fresquez (Tony) - West Jordan, UT., Elaine Velarde (Johnny) - West Jordan, UT., Leo B. Silva (Gloria) - CA., Gerry Silva - Midvale, UT., her 15 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and 22 Great-Great Grandchildren, and a host of beloved relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Silva family lovingly thanks all of those that kept our Mom in your prayers.

Viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 on Tuesday May 30, 2023, at: Goff Mortuary - 8090 South State, Midvale, UT. 84047 (801-255-7151).

Funeral services for Tillie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday the 31st of May, 2023, at Saint Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7405 So Redwood Rd., West Jordan, UT 84084. Graveside Services will follow at Midvale City Cemetery: 471 6th Ave Midvale, UT 84047.

There will be a luncheon for family & friends following graveside services, at: Saint Therese Catholic Church – 7832 Allen Street, Midvale, UT 84047.
