Tom Kalleres

Tom Kalleres was born on May 17, 1940 in Ely, Nevada to Anastasios and Juanita (Reyes) Kalleres. Both father and mother being immigrants, Tommy was very proud of his Greek and Mexican heritage. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox church, where he and his wife Claudia are members of the Society of Athanasios Diakos. Tom was the second oldest of six children. He went to Ruth Grade School and graduated from White Pine High School in Ely, Nevada, where he was elected sophomore class president.

Tom was very sports-minded, playing most sports in grade school, high school, city leagues and also participated in the Senior Games in St. George, UT. Tom was also appointed to the golf and tennis advisory board in Ely. During his military service, he was selected to play special forces football which he considered a great experience. He got his only hole-in-one at the age of 76 years old.

Tom was employed at Ruth, Kennecott Nevada mines. Later transferring to Kennecott Utah Copper at Bingham, Utah. He retired after 40 years of service and made a lifetime of friends in the process.

Tom married Claudia Harrison in 1963 and was blessed to have her as a wife, friend, nurse and partner. Nobody loved Yia Yia more than Pa Pou. They have two beautiful daughters, Jacqueline (David Ballif) and Julie (Ed Hammontree). Yia Yia and Pa Pou have five grandchildren, Elena (Daniel Brockbank), Ariana (Jordan Blackwell-Sapp), Brett Hammontree, Holly Hammontree and Acacia (Connor Hansen). He was proud to have been present at all of their births, and also has three great-grandchildren, Audrie, Sloane and Tristen Brockbank.

Tom was preceded in death by his father Anastasios, mother Juanita, sister Marie and brothers, George, Michael, Chris (Keecho) and David, who are now reunited as a family.

Services will take place Monday, August 4th starting at 11:00am at Goff Mortuary located at 8090 South State Street, in Midvale, Utah. Services include a visitation, followed by a brief Trisagion prayer conducted by Father Elias of St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church, and burial at Sandy City Cemetery.
