Truman Edward Ross, known to many as Ed, passed away peacefully at his home in Draper, Utah on Friday, June 20, 2025 at the age of 82.
Born on February 18, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ed was the son of Truman E. Ross and Hazel Gail Hicks. He graduated from Granite High School and went on to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil. Following his mission, Ed earned his degree from the University of Utah. He served honorably in both the Army National Guard and the United States Army Reserve.
On March 17, 1967, Ed married Marietta Pond (later divorced), and together they had five children: Sandi, Jennifer, Rebecca, Michael, and Rob. He later married Patricia Bailey on June 23, 1984, which added two additional children, Chris and Bob. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and service.
Ed dedicated his professional career to the banking industry, where he formed many lasting friendships. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as bishop of the Winder 6th Ward in Holladay, Utah. Later, he and Pat served as missionaries in the Salt Lake Inner City Mission, as well as at the Utah State Correctional Facility.
He had a deep love for working with his hands and spent many hours in his woodshop, creating and building wood projects that were often finished with Pat’s artistic talents. Ed found great enjoyment and will be remembered by family for his thoughtful tradition of sending personalized birthday cards, each one including photos of the individual and life updates, a gesture that made each person feel loved and celebrated.
Later in life, Ed embraced what he felt was his true calling, serving as a chaplain. This work brought him profound joy and allowed him to offer comfort, support, and spiritual guidance to others in their most vulnerable moments. He treasured the relationships that came from interacting with his patients as well as his coworkers. Ed will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering faith, deep compassion, and the love he gave to family, friends, and his community.
He is survived by his children: Sandi (Ryan), Jennifer, Rebecca (Jeremy), Michael (Lindsay), and Rob (Holly); stepson Bob (Lee Ann); brother Steve (Chris); 27 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Hazel; his beloved wife, Pat; and his stepdaughter, Chris.
The family extends their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the entire Aspire Home Health and Hospice team for the exceptional compassion, support, and care they provided to Ed and his loved ones during a difficult time. Your unwavering dedication, kindness, and professionalism brought comfort and peace, and your presence made an immeasurable difference in his final days. We will always remember and appreciate the tenderness with which you cared for him—not only as a patient, but as a coworker.
