Valerie Graham Brown

Valerie Graham Brown, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with her devoted husband by her side.

Valerie was born on April 20, 1943, in Pasadena, California, to Fred Lee Graham and June Gillett Graham. She married the love of her life and best friend, Steve Brown, on February 5, 1965, beginning a loving partnership that would span more than six decades.

Val and Steve made their home in Sandy, Utah, where they raised their family and built a life centered on faith, family, service, and friendship. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, faithfully serving in numerous callings throughout her life, including Primary, Relief Society, Cub Scouts, and Young Women.

Valerie was exceptionally talented and creative. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies and crafts, including pouring and painting figurines using the kiln in her home. She found great joy in creating personalized cards for family and friends and was especially proud of the beautiful, one-of-a-kind quilts she lovingly made and gifted throughout the years.

More than anything, Val treasured people. She loved sharing stories about her family and friends and could strike up a conversation with anyone she met. Her kind heart, forgiving nature, and genuine interest in others made it easy for her to form lasting friendships wherever she went.

Val had a special gift for bringing people together. She believed everyone should feel welcome and included. Family traditions often extended beyond relatives to include friends and neighbors. Her annual July 24th backyard sleepovers became cherished memories, with rows of sleeping bags filling the yard. Neighborhood children were frequently welcomed into her home for Sunday Disney movie nights, complete with her homemade caramel corn.

Valerie graduated from Olympus High School and later attended cosmetology school.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Sterling Graham, who passed away at the age of two.

She is survived by her loving husband, Steve Brown, and their children: Scott (Diane) Brown, Kirt (Michelle) Brown, Denice (Andy) Despain, and Michele (Brett) Olsen.

Valerie dearly loved her fourteen grandchildren: Joshua (Bernadette), M'Kenna (Tevyn), Dallin, Jared (Paola), Andrew (Lara), Cassandra (Forrest), Riley (Aubry), Karter, Benjamin (Kirsten), Ashley (Chris), Dakota, Payton, Paige, and Logan. She was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.

A viewing will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale, Utah.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse, 2450 West 10400 South, South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.

Services will be streamed live through Goff Mortuary for those unable to attend in person.

Valerie's legacy of kindness, creativity, inclusion, faith, and unconditional love will continue to live on through her family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her generous heart.
