Wendie Ann Baker Blatnick, age 76, passed away on February 21, 2026. She was born on September 24, 1949, in Preston, Idaho, where she grew up and developed the faith, creativity, and love of service that defined her life.
Wendie married the love of her life, Richard Blatnick, on November 17, 1972, in the Logan Utah Temple. Their love story began on a double date, and just ninety days after they met, they were married—beginning a lifetime of devotion, partnership, and faith together.
Wendie had a gift for creating and truly lived to serve. She worked professionally as a seamstress, making draperies—some of which were used in LDS temples. Her hands were rarely still, and her talents extended far beyond sewing. She loved canning, baking, knitting, and crocheting, always finding joy in creating something that could bless others.
In later years, Wendie devoted countless hours to humanitarian efforts, including work through the Church Humanitarian Center. She lovingly donated over 350 dresses to those in need around the world. She also made 170 quilts for women and children through The Road Home shelter, 70 quilts for Primary Children’s Hospital, 57 quilts and 48 crocheted hats for those in Ukraine, and 25 quilts for the Salt Lake homeless shelter. Each piece was carefully made and freely given, a reflection of her quiet compassion and generosity.
More than anything, Wendie will be remembered for her warm, ever-present smile. She had a way of lighting up a room and making others feel seen, valued, and loved. Her smile reflected the kindness and faith that guided her life.
She received her education at LDS Business College and was known by all who loved her as hardworking, selfless, and deeply devoted to her family. Through many medical challenges, her motto was “Never Give Up.” She faced each trial with faith and quiet strength, truly blessed of the Lord and deeply aware of the love of her Heavenly Father.
Wendie is survived by her husband, Richard Blatnick; her children and grandchildren:
Jason and Heidi Jane Blatnick, and their children Alyssa, Hailey, and Austin;
Heidi Ann and Steven Watkins, and their son Hunter;
and Enoch Blatnick, and his daughter Chloe;
as well as her sister, Connie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ila and Donald Baker, and her sisters, Janet and Jeanie.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 1, from 6:00–8:00 p.m., at the LDS ward house (2, 5 & 10 Building), located at 1361 E 4000 S, Salt Lake City, Utah 84124. A second viewing will be held at the same location on Monday, March 2, from 10:00–11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will take place at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 S Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84084.
Wendie’s legacy lives on through her family, her faith, her constant smile, and the countless lives she touched through the work of her hands and the generosity of her heart. She will be dearly loved and missed by many.
