William Ross Allen

Our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, William Ross Allen, 81, of Sandy, Utah, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Bill was born in Preston, Idaho on April 14, 1943, to James Ross and Mae Blackley Allen. He grew up in Draper, Utah where he enjoyed many fond memories. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1961 and attended Brigham Young University on an art scholarship. In October 1962, he was called to serve a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints in the California mission where he labored in the cities of San Bernardino, Las Vegas, Torrance, Tempe and Burbank.

After returning from his mission, Bill married Sharon McBride on December 17, 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Sandy, Utah and are the proud parents of five children.

In 1968, Bill graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance. He was employed by First Security and Wells Fargo banks for 45 years in both personal and commercial banking. He loved meeting people and had a talent for personal finance which benefited both those he worked with and many family members and friends.

After his retirement, Bill and Sharon enjoyed traveling with friends and family. They also enjoyed serving in the Draper Utah Temple, and in The Conference Center in Salt Lake City as service missionaries and made many good friends. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life.

In addition to his career and church service, Bill was a talented artist throughout his life and spent many hours painting beautiful watercolor and oil landscapes. He also played the piano and the organ on many occasions. He was an avid gardener and loved both vegetable gardening and landscaping with colorful flowers. A talent which he shared with his children.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children Deniece (Craig) Reaveley, Natalie (Darin) Brush, Blake (Stacy) Allen, Aimee (Alik) Gines, Brooke (Brian) Smith; 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara and her husband Blaine Worthen, and his daughter-in-law Jami Brown Allen.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Indian Ridge Ward located at 9636 S. 1700 E. in Sandy, Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be held at the same location prior to the funeral beginning at 9:30 AM. The interment will be held at the Heber City Cemetery.
