August 29, 1931 ~ October 27, 2021 (age 90)

Obituary

Calvin Alonzo Goulding, born August 29, 1931, passed on to his eternal reward on October 27, 2021.

Calvin was born to James Orlo and Fawn Hancock Goulding, the second son and fourth of nine children (4 boys, 5 girls) in Henrieville, Utah. He loved living in the beautiful red rock country near Bryce Canyon.  The family later moved to Orem, Utah, where he was drum major for the marching band and graduated from the old Lincoln High School in 1949.

Cal joined the U.S. Army out of high school and served there and in the Air Force, as well, for more than 4 years, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant during the Korean War. At age 25, he met Ann Marie Tetley, and they were married in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in April 1957.

Cal and Ann spent a good part of their early married life moving all over California. They lived in Sandy, Utah from 1973-1977, where he served as Bishop of the Sandy 6th Ward. They loved the eight years they lived in Lacey, Washington. He served as Bishop of the Lacey 1st Ward, and they made many lifelong friends.  Their last move was back to Sandy where they lived in the Eastridge 3rd Ward for nearly 30 years. The family is forever grateful for the service of those wonderful friends and neighbors to both Cal and Ann.

Cal was always moving forward. A great salesman, he worked hard to support eight children, making sure they were actively involved in sports, scouts, music, church and other social activities. He and Ann taught their kids how to stand up straight, speak out loud, and make people feel comfortable.

Cal was unable to serve a mission when younger due to a motorcycle accident, so he took great pleasure in serving not one, but two 2-year missions with Ann to Montevideo, Uruguay, and the Mexico City Temple Visitors Center.  After Ann’s passing in 2014, Cal - at age 84 - traveled alone to attend sessions in all 77 LDS temples in operation at the time in the United States and Canada, traveling mostly by minivan.

Cal spent the last 4 years of his life happily married to Sharon Turner, a wonderful woman who also has eight children. Ann would have really liked her.  Cal and Sharon were great companions who spent their time serving others.  She and her family will sorely miss him, as will the rest of us.

Cal’s three great loves were his country, his family, and Jesus Christ.  There was never any doubt about his testimony of the Savior or of Cal’s resolve to do everything possible to serve Him.  We know that not only is Cal reunited with Ann and other loved ones, we’re sure he has met his Maker as well.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Sharon; children - Gayle (Garn) Christensen, Tami (Scott) Aaron, Mark (Nancy) Goulding, Gary, Paul (Laura) Goulding, Brent (Sadie) Goulding, Ryan (Nicole) Goulding, Laura (Bettina) Goulding; 35 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren with four more on the way, and sisters Arlene Neal and Zoe (Ernie) Maes.
