Gordon Olson

October 31, 1931 ~ February 14, 2021 (age 89)

Gordon Olson died peacefully at home on February 14, 2021 after a long bout with prostate cancer thanks to the fabulous care of the Huntsman Cancer Center and Huntsman at Home.  He had 10 fabulous years after diagnosis.

Gordon (Gordy) was the long time President of Plywood Wholesalers and Allwoods for almost 50 years. He is survived by his 30 year companion Gwen Wallace, sister Jo Schultz, and his children Laura and her husband John Worthen, David Olson, son-in-law Michael Schafrath, Jenny Harkness and Lynda Collette, and a grandfather to 10 grandchildren.  He is predeceased in death by his daughters Julie Schafrath and Dora Ann Olson.  Previously married to Leila Jenson Olson and Sally Thompson Olson, deceased.

Gordy had a zest for life and enjoyed many hours golfing with Gwen, socializing with friends, fine dining and Gwen’s extended family, who all appreciated his humor.  Although sometimes “his zest of life” and fine wine would get the better of him.   Gordy and Gwen’s Dinner Club was always a special occasion where his friends enjoyed his wit and humor occasionally even embarrassing Gwen! Gordy not only played hard but he worked hard.  Gordy was a self-made man who enjoyed the respect of his peers. He had a large group of friends and neighbors who enjoyed spending time with him.

We all want to thank Gwen for her loving care during the last year of Gordy’s life.  His son David was indispensable and came whenever called.  Gordy was extremely generous with his family and gave liberally to The Rescue Mission, Food Bank and The Salvation Army.  Please feel free to donate in Gordy’s name to any of them or The Huntsman Cancer Center in lieu of flowers.
