Our beloved Brother, Son, Uncle, Husband, and Friend, Stephen Leo Johnson, passed away on July 11, 2020, at his home In Midvale, Utah. Stephen was born on November 1, 1948 to loving parents Leo Bertram Johnson and Elin Linnea Chelman Johnson, in Winchester, Massachusetts. Stephen was the 2nd oldest of 5 children. Stephen also had two sisters born in Massachusetts, Carol Lee Johnson Glen, who at 73 is the oldest of the siblings, and Ilene Marie Johnson Olsen, who would now be 70 years old but preceded Stephen in death in 2005 at age 54. Stephen's parents later relocated to Utah, where his two brothers, David Alan Johnson (68), and Robert Howard Johnson (65) were born. Stephen was preceded in death by his Father, Leo Bertram Johnson (1982) and his mother Elin Linnea Chelman Johnson (2004), and his sister Ilene Marie Johnson Olsen (2005). Stephen was 2nd oldest of 5 siblings. Carol Lee Johnson Glen (73), Stephen Leo Johnson (72) Ilene Marie Olsen Johnson (70) David Alan Johnson (68) and Robert Howard Johnson (65).
Stephen graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1966 where he was active in athletics, including Football & Track. He had an for affinity sports cars and along with several friends was a member of AMF car club. He was especially fond of Corvettes and owned a 1962 Convertible, a rare 1966 split rear window and several others during his lifetime. Stephen worked as a draftsman for the State of Utah and ended his career retiring as the Yard Supervisor for Wheeler Machinery, spending approximately 34 years in their employment.
Stephen was very talented with his hands and loved building and/or remodeling. He remodeled his parents' home and supervised the building of two of his own homes, performing the majority of the work himself, as well as remodeling a home he had recently remodeled prior to leasing the home to a tenant just prior to his passing.
Stephen was an Ordained High Priest and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was proud to have served in many callings in his local ward. He possessed a very strong testimony of the Church's purpose and Mission and did all he could to share his testimony and bring others into the Church while serving as a Ward Missionary and possessing other various callings. He attended the Temple regularly and gladly performed many ordinances whether serving as a missionary or attending on his own. He loved others and willingly served others around him. When his mother suffered health problems incident to age he moved in to care for her prior to her death in 2004. He had great love and respect for her and willingly helped to ease her suffering prior to her passing. He also possessed a great love for animals and cared for many pet dogs during his life.
Stephen's funeral will be held at Goff Mortuary located at 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah 84047, 801-255-7151. A viewing will be held for all wishing to attend on Saturday, August 1, 2020, from 9:30 a.m - 10:45 a.m., with the program commencing at 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. The interment will be at 12:30 p.m, also on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Redwood Memorial Estates located at 6500 S. Redwood Road, 801-262-4631, West Jordan, Utah 84123.
